How many years does it take to become a vocal performer?

Developing as a musician and vocalist can take many years. For some this means formal training in the form of vocal tuition and choirs from a young age. But for others this could be a hobby or a passion for singing fostered through karaoke, school glee clubs or just developing as a vocalist to give voice to songs they have written. The key thing is that you have the natural building blocks in terms of pitching, tone and musicality and that you have a passion for music which translates into the determination needed to spend the long hours refining your skills and material. As a performer you are always working and training in the same way an athlete needs to always practice and improve, how long it takes to get to the top depends on the individual.
