How should I prepare for a career in vocal performance?

You will need put in the hours, refining your technique and developing your repertoire so that you are ready to take up a range of opportunities that may come up ranging from backing vocals, covers/function bands, session singing or as a lead performer or recording artist. Aside from developing your primary skill in performing you also need to be working on your profile and marketing - getting your name out there through social media, digital marketing as well as attending open mics, gigs and artist/producer meetups to network in the traditional sense. Collaborating with others strengthens your network but is also a great way of expanding your skills and horizons observing what others do and tapping into their networks too. Making sure your production and songwriting skills are top-notch will help you put together a great portfolio of work which will act as your calling card to the industry.
