Starting out in the music industry in 2024

It is important to remember that many of the biggest music companies in the world started as small companies with very few people involved. Today, there are many opportunities for people to start their own ventures, using the vast array of tools and online platforms that have been adopted by all types of businesses. At a grass-roots level, you will find many performing artists, bands, songwriters, producers, DJ’s and other types of creatives that would be very happy to have someone assist and advise them on help them to develop their skills and knowledge. This is where someone with nothing more than a passion for working in the music industry can ‘cut their teeth’ by learning on the job, which is how many artist managers have made a career. Management in the music business is a very broad term and can vary dependent on the scale and profile of an artist that they are working with. Many managers that work with smaller, grass-roots artists carry out tasks that are related to every area of an artist’s career, including booking live gigs, helping to release their music, taking care of social media, legal advice and many others. As time progresses, managers may then start to build a team around an artist/band, as areas of their career starts to build and grow.
