Music Publishing 101 with Yasmin Lajoie

Yasmin Lajoie is a music manager and freelance consultant based in London. An experienced industry executive with a thorough understanding of the global music market and over a decade of experience working with successful artists across the genre matrix. Her career began in the A&R department at EMI, working on artists as diverse as Beirut, Lana Del Rey and Kate Bush; she has since been employed by Sony/ATV and Warner/Chappell.

A committed mentor, keen writer and adept public speaker, Yasmin is an active member of the UK Music Futures Group, the Music Managers Forum and the BRIT Awards voting academy. She also chairs the intersectionality committee at shesaid.so and is on the board of trustees for the charity Open Up Music.

In this session we explore the following: Can you be credited as a songwriter without writing any music? Why does Enya control 100% of a Rihanna song? Is a stream a performance or a reproduction? In this stimulating one hour session, attendees will be introduced to key terms and concepts and learn all about the murky world of music publishing.

Attendees will be able to speak confidently and fluently on all areas of music publishing, negotiate terms, understand basic deals and know when and how to obtain sync licences and sampling clearances.
