Los Angeles Scholarships & Financial Support

Point Blank is committed to making music education accessible to people of all backgrounds. We are delighted to offer our program of Future S.T.A.R.S. scholarships and grant awards to support this commitment. These include a range of awards that aim to nurture talent as well as provide access to higher education for specific under-represented groups.

Our Future S.T.A.R.S. Scholarship and Grant Award program aims to:

  • SUPPORT disadvantaged students into music education and into the industry
  • Nurture TALENT by removing social, ideological, and financial barriers
  • Improve ACCESS to education, opportunity, and employment within music
  • Create new REALITIES by raising aspiration in under-represented groups
  • Enable SUCCESS for anyone with the talent and the drive to achieve it

RA Young Producers Scholarship (Los Angeles)

The Resident Advisor Young Producers Scholarship grants a full scholarship covering 100% of tuition and fees to one lucky student for the Music Production and DJ Performance Master Diploma program held in person at Point Blank Los Angeles. It is available to applicants aged 18-25 whose circumstances may otherwise prevent them from studying at Point Blank, and it aims to provide a unique platform for a new generation of electronic music DJs and producers, with a focus on enabling young artists the opportunity to pursue their passion. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, especially those who feel that they face difficulties when accessing the music scene due to their cultural background and/or socioeconomic status. If any applicants have accessibility needs and would like assistance applying, we are here to help.

To be considered for this scholarship simply submit a scholarship application in the form of a Resume and Cover Letter (2 pages maximum). Your Cover Letter should include the following:

  • The name of the scholarship you are applying for (school location and program name)
  • The reason you are applying and should be selected for the scholarship
  • Highlights of your relevant musical experience (professional or personal)
  • Links to your artist social media profiles (Soundcloud, YouTube, Instagram, etc.)
  • Links to video / audio clips showcasing your strongest music and/or mix

If you are selected as a finalist, you will be invited to attend a virtual panel interview between September 8 and September 15. Once all of the shortlisted applicants have been interviewed the winner will be selected, contacted, and officially announced on September 17.

Music Industry Leaders Scholarship (Los Angeles) 

Point Blank is dedicated to helping talented producers from all over the world achieve excellence at our beautiful Mack Sennett Studios campus in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. This is a talent-based scholarship which can defray up to 20% of your Point Blank tuition cost. The amount of the scholarship is adjudicated according to talent as evidenced through a portfolio combined with potential for industry success as evidenced through a personal statement.

Portfolio:

For music production programs, your portfolio must contain two music samples. The music samples may either be attached in MP3 format or provided as URL links to content posted online.

For DJ programs, your portfolio must contain a music sample of your live DJ set. The music sample should showcase your best abilities as a DJ, and must be an audio or video recording of one of your live DJ sets of at least 10 minutes in length. It may either be attached in MP3 format or provided as a URL link to content posted online; YouTube links are the preferred submission format.

For singing programs, your portfolio must contain a video performance of two songs. The video performances must be two songs of your choice; originals or covers are acceptable. No autotune or effects may be applied. The videos must be provided as URL links to content posted online.

Personal statement:

The personal statement must be at least 250 words and must address each of the following four prompts: 

  • Describe the creative process behind your music samples, and your previous experiences in the music industry, if any.
  • Describe any musical or academic honors, achievements, awards, or recognitions you’ve received, if any.
  • What inspires or influences you as an artist?
  • What are your goals during your Point Blank program and in the music industry after graduation?

NEED-BASED TUITION GRANTS

Point Blank is dedicated to helping music students of limited means achieve excellence at our Los Angeles location. Students whose families make less than $60,000 per year or individuals making less than $30,000 per year are eligible to apply for a need-based tuition grant, which can defray up to 20% of your Point Blank tuition cost.
HOW TO APPLY: Submit your most recent tax return (if you file), your parents most recent tax return, and a personal statement to scholarships[at]pointblankmusicschool.com. If you are not a US citizen/resident, submit a recent bank statement as well as your parents’ most recent bank statement. The personal statement must be at least 250 words and must address why you feel you deserve a need-based tuition grant.

PROGRAM PACKAGE DISCOUNTS (Los angeles)

If you enroll in one course or program at Point Blank Los Angeles, you will receive a $200 discount off of tuition for each additional program you book during the same term. Students who receive a talent-based scholarship or need-based tuition grant are not eligible for package discounts. Terms & Conditions

The scholarships and grants listed above are subject to the following Terms & Conditions:

  • Scholarships and grants may only be used towards the cost of a Point Blank course, are not transferable and may not be redeemed for cash value.
  • Point Blank will attempt to contact the selected recipient using the phone and email information provided on this application. If the recipient does not respond within 7 days of the first contact attempt, the scholarship, bursary or grant offer will be rescinded.
  • Where applicable, scholarship and grant funds will be disbursed periodically throughout the program. After the initial disbursement, the recipient must maintain satisfactory academic progress and meet minimum attendance requirements to continue to receive funds.
  • If the recipient fails to maintain satisfactory academic progress or meet minimum attendance requirements, the scholarship will be forfeited and the recipient is liable for all remaining tuition charges that would have otherwise been paid by the scholarship.
  • Point Blank reserves the right to not award a scholarship or grant if no applicant meets eligibility requirements.
  • Scholarships and grants are not guaranteed, nor will a scholarship or grant award secure a place on the intended program or term of study for the recipient.
  • Students in receipt of scholarships or bursaries may be asked and be expected to attend external events (e.g. Open Houses) or contribute to marketing material.
  • Students in receipt of a scholarship or grant who are eligible for free software will receive the software in the first week of their course, once all enrollment requirements have been met. 
  • For applicants to the LA School, while students may apply for any scholarship or grant, only one scholarship or grant award will be given per student, per program. The maximum financial support package offered through a scholarship or grant at Point Blank Los Angeles is 20% of the total program tuition cost.
