POINT BLANK MASTERED

Writing a Killer Song with Linton Bennett

The workshop will focus on 'how songs work' in relation to what artists aim for in the studio and the crucial detail an a&r person and record labels need in your music to generate a hit record. Critical analysis will be explored on why the 3 minutes 30-second record still rules and on how adopting this discipline increases workflow and yields better results. We will also be putting a lens to the 'less is more' phenomenon.

Main topics for the workshop are as follows:

  • What exactly is a hit record?
  • The disciplines adhered to by hit songwriters and producers
  • How to create more dynamics (story-line) in your chord structure and bass line
  • Why the rhythmical shape of a song creates the strongest hook
  • How songwriters manage to repeat the hit writing process
  • Finding inspiration (how going back is the new forward) and attracting a wider audience
  • How melody works in a hit song
  • The importance of the radio edit structure, and how it creates hits.

Writing a hit requires much more than a great song. In this workshop, we will breakdown the process to help enhance your potential.
