Chris Nash, Head of Programme for our Music Software Engineering degree, would like to invite you to our Taster Day on Saturday, 1st June (12pm - 3pm).
This day is not to be missed as you’ll have the chance to get to know Chris and his team of lecturers. Throughout the course of the day, you will have direct contact with Chris and his team, meet like-minded students, and ultimately, get a worthwhile taster of student life at pointblank. We will be holding three workshops where you'll get an insight on Sound Design and Audio for Games, Computational Thinking and Audio Processing. There are limited places available so please REGISTER TODAY to secure your place.
Parents and carers are welcome and will require a ticket so please book all places using the form below.
This is how the day will go:
12pm – 12:30pm - Registration, tea, coffee and lunch.
12:30pm – 1pm - Intro to the school and the Music Software Engineering (MuSE) degree course.
1pm – 2pm - Studio Time - this is where our lecturers show you just how good we are.
1pm – 2pm – Parent/Guardian session.
2pm – 3pm Q&A where you will have the chance to ask Chris any questions you may have.
A little bit about Chris
Chris Nash is a software developer, composer, educator, and researcher. His 2011 PhD from the University of Cambridge, where he explored techniques for computer music, has left a lasting impact on industry practices. In academia, he actively develops technologies for real-world use. With expertise in DSP, C++, and HCI for audio and music applications, he imparts knowledge to the next generation of audio developers and contributes to textbooks. Leading technology projects for big names like Steinberg/Yamaha, BT, and the BBC, His creations include the award-winning reViSiT, a cross-platform tracker-inspired ‘DAW-in-a-plugin,’ and Manhattan, a hybrid DAW and music programming language. His extensive experience covers audio application architectures, synthesis, effects processing, interaction design, and more. Beyond the tech world, Chris crafts music for various mediums, with standout projects like BBC Music Day where he blended Manhattan and machine vision to create live crowd-driven music at Bristol station.
