Overview

THIS COURSE IS NOW FULLY BOOKED

Come along to Point Blank Institute's DJ Summer School and learn how to spin the decks this year. You'll be spending 2 days - Saturday & Sunday - in Point Blank's incredible state-of-the-art Pioneer DJ studio learning to mix alongside an experienced professional DJ. Every student will be getting hands-on with their own workstation featuring the latest industry-standard technology, giving you a fun and exciting introduction to the art. And of course, all music genres are welcome! 

Spaces on our summer school courses are limited to ensure every student receives enough 1-2-1 time with their instructor, so enrol now to guarantee your place!

Our Summer School free to attend, however spaces are limited, and priority will be given on the basis of our commitments to supporting students from underrepresented groups. More information on this can be found here.

As part of our commitment to fair access and participation in higher education, and in recognition of groups typically underrepresented in the music industry more broadly, these summer schools are free to attend for students who meet one or more of the below criteria.

  • Experience of local authority care
  • A disability, long-term health condition, specific learning difficulty or mental health condition
  • Of Black, Asian or minority ethnic heritage
  • Female or female-identifying
  • Living in a postcode identified as having low participation in higher education (POLAR4 Q1 or Q2)*
  • Living in a postcode identified as being in an area of relative deprivation (IMD Q1 or Q2)*

Do I need to buy equipment to take the course?

No, we supply all the equipment you need for your course.

If you wish to buy equipment or software for your home studio, Point Blank students qualify for discounts from Apple Education, Ableton, Native Instruments and other leading industry partners.

What is my timetable?

This is a two-day weekend summer school course which take places on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm each day.

DJ, label head, club impresario. Mixing grime, techno, bass, garage, Madam X is adept at playing huge crowds or 100-cap basements. Hosts shows on Radio 1, Rinse & NTS. She is multi-faceted and unique.

Goldie

We taught Goldie something he didn't know already - Ableton Live! The legend drops in from time to time & recently invited PB students to a VIP drum recording session at Assault & Battery studios.

Spoony

Spoony is a legend in UK dance music having brought garage to the masses in 2000 as part of the Dreem Team. He's since gone on to become a staple on Five Live but proved he's always learning by enrolling at PB!

Expert Lecturers

Nigel Hosten DJing

Aka Mr Dex. DJ'd with Ghostface & Raekwon (Wu-Tang), Omar, Estelle, Sway, Scratch Perverts and DJ Jazzy Jeff. Hosts The DeX Files weekly on itch.fm/live. Member of ‘A Bunch of Deckheads’ DJ agency.

David Clarke DJing

David Clarke (aka DJ Davine) has played Ministry of Sound, The Garage and the Mother Live 333. Has his own urban radio show with an audience of 90,000. He is a Traktor expert and works with PB and NI.

Darren Henry DJing

Darren Henry, a.k.a Quest, is a pioneer of the UK Dubstep sound since its inception back in the early 2000s, with releases on top tier labels including Deep Medi Music and Dub Police.

Ben Chetwood Intro to Production

An Ableton Live expert, Ben has worked with artists such as Little Boots, Rudimental & Damian Lazarus. His approach to performance is influenced by his extensive use of hardware and effects.

Ceri Owens Music Production

Veteran DJ of The End, Fabric and Corsica Studios, Ceri's production work has support from Richie Hawtin, Mr G and more.

Ben Bristow DJing

Played at Space (Ibiza), Ministry of Sound, Cargo & Scala. Featured on XFM & Kiss FM. Released on Breakbeat Paradise Recordings, Tru:Funk, Funk Blasters & Resense. Features regularly on BBC 6Music.
