Overview

This unique course is led by Dr. Mathew Knowles, the architect behind the careers of Destiny’s Child, Beyoncé, and Solange, just to name a few. Dr. Knowles has also worked with legends such as Chaka Kahn, The O’Jays, and Earth, Wind & Fire and has taught and lectured at Harvard University, University of Houston and University of Manchester, among others.

Designed for established music industry professionals, beginners, and music creators alike, this course is essential to developing a core understanding of the music business, finding talent, marketing, and business issues beneficial to those pursuing or wishing to pursue a career in the music industry. Dr. Knowles focuses this course on practical issues surrounding free expression in the music industry and advanced concepts regarding relationships with publishing companies, record labels, recording studios, producers, managers, and band members.

  • You will learn through a dynamic assortment of lectures, special guest speakers, hands-on workshops and more, discovering the fundamentals of marketing, publicity, copyright, production, record release and building an effective team.

Dr. Mathew Knowles

Dr. Knowles is a legendary author, professor, lecturer, public speaker, entrepreneur, music executive, artist manager and founder of Music World Entertainment (MWE). Based out of Houston, MWE is one of the world’s leading music and entertainment conglomerates. Dr. Knowles' impressive track record involves eight consecutive #1 Albums for Destiny's Child, three consecutive #1 Albums fo Beyoncé and his artists have accumulated a total of 28 Grammy awards.

As well as his impressive industry experience, Dr. Knowles is a renowned academic, having lectured and spoken at some of the world's leading Universities such as Harvard, University of Houston and University of Manchester. Also a published author, Dr. Knowles has written a number of books on topics such as Public Relations and the Media, The DNA of Achievers and more.

FAQs

What equipment do I need to buy to take the course?

None at all! Every Point Blank student has access to their own fully-equipped workstation in class and during their practical studio work outside of class time. If you decide to purchase equipment for your own home studio, we will be happy to help you arrange student discounts from our leading industry partners including Apple, Ableton, Pioneer, Native Instruments, Serato, Izotope, Waves, and more.

When are the classes scheduled?

For each 10-week course, class meets once per week for 4 hours (with a 15-minute break included) at one of the following session times:

10:00am – 2:00pm (Morning Session)

2:30pm – 6:30pm (Afternoon Session)

7:00pm – 11:00pm (Evening Session)

Some programs contain up to 4 courses per quarter, so check the "Key Info" section on each program page to see how many classes you'll be attending each week. Classes are scheduled before the start of each quarter; call 323.282.7660 for the most up-to-date information on scheduling and class availability. Our facilities are also open for student use from 9:00am to 7:00pm Monday through Friday, giving you valuable studio time to make your music and reinforce your new skills outside of class sessions.

Do you provide housing accommodations?

Point Blank has partnered with Upstart Housing to provide our students with inexpensive and conveniently-located housing options in Silver Lake, Echo Park, East Hollywood, and more. Most of our housing locations include built-in recording studio spaces.
