Overview

Our Essential DJ Skills course is your opportunity to establish unshakeable foundations as a well-rounded DJ on the latest industry standard equipment at an Ableton-certified college. You'll learn essential DJ skills such as beatmatching, cueing & drop mixing, and digital DJing; you'll learn the art and science of CD and vinyl mixing with turntables, EQing your mixes, integrating with Rekordbox, and loads more. You'll study in college classes taught by professional DJs including DJ Morse Code (voted “Best DJ in America” by Sun Times) and Dela Moon (performer at Electric Daisy Carnival, Boom, and Rainbow Serpent and one of DJ Mag's "Emerging Artists You Need To Hear”). Our DJ studio at historic Mack Sennett Studios in Los Angeles is kitted out with the latest top-of-the-range Pioneer DJ equipment. Learn from our professional DJs on high quality pro DJ gear including the Pioneer CDJ2000 NX2S, DJM900 NXS2, PLX-1000, XDJ-1000, XDJ-700, Remix Station 1000, HDJ2000MK2, and lots more. Get used to all kinds of equipment and prepare to rock any party or club! All styles are welcome. This course includes a free copy of Pioneer DJ Rekordbox, plus unlimited practice time, and can be taken as a daytime, evening, or weekend option. Mecha Music Production & DJing

An Ableton Certified Trainer and Pioneer DJ Battle Championship winner, Mikhail Arce-Ignacio (Mecha) is a versatile producer, engineer, music director, DJ and live electronic performer.

DJ Arkitek DJing

Markman Composition & Mixing

DJ Markman incorporates classic 90s House with futuristic R&B, UK Garage & Bassline. Ableton Certified, his live sets pay homage to the energy that made his heroes sets, artists like Adamski, Orbital and the Chems, so compelling.

FAQs

What equipment do I need to buy to take the course?

None at all! Every Point Blank student has access to their own fully-equipped workstation in class and during their practical studio work outside of class time. If you decide to purchase equipment for your own home studio, we will be happy to help you arrange student discounts from our leading industry partners including Apple, Ableton, Pioneer, Native Instruments, Serato, Izotope, Waves, and more.

When are the classes scheduled?

For each 10-week course, class meets once per week for 4 hours (with a 15-minute break included) at one of the following session times:

10:00am – 2:00pm (Morning Session)

2:30pm – 6:30pm (Afternoon Session)

7:00pm – 11:00pm (Evening Session)

Some programs contain up to 4 courses per quarter, so check the "Key Info" section on each program page to see how many classes you'll be attending each week. Classes are scheduled before the start of each quarter; call 323.282.7660 for the most up-to-date information on scheduling and class availability. Our facilities are also open for student use from 9:00am to 7:00pm Monday through Friday, giving you valuable studio time to make your music and reinforce your new skills outside of class sessions.

Do you provide housing accommodations?

Point Blank has partnered with Upstart Housing to provide our students with inexpensive and conveniently-located housing options in Silver Lake, Echo Park, East Hollywood, and more. Most of our housing locations include built-in recording studio spaces.
