Entry Requirements for Higher Education Programmes

What are the entry requirements for the HE courses?

It can be daunting applying for your degree. Please feel free to live chat, email or call us to learn more about our courses and the application process.

The following guidelines are designed to orientate you through entry on to a Higher Education course at Point Blank. 

If you would like to apply, you can do so through UCAS or by downloading our application form here . Please note, if you are applying from outside the UK you can find specific entry requirements for certain countries below in the International Entry Requirements section. If your country is not listed here and you have any questions about your qualifications please contact our Admissions Team .

First and foremost, we are looking for people who can demonstrate a) their passion for music and b) an ability to successfully complete a Higher Education programme.

This will initially be assessed through your personal statement which should include any previous study or relevant experience in music. The Admissions Team will look at the merits of each applicant, taking the following evidence into consideration:

  • Personal statement
  • Predicted or previously attained grades
  • Examples of work
  • References
  • Relevant work experience

Applicants may also be asked to complete a written exercise and/or attend an interview.

Where conditional offers are made, typical offers will be set between:

  • A Level:  BBC – BCC
  • BTEC:  DMM - MMM

Equivalent qualifications will also be accepted. For information on equivalency please click  here 

  • For Point Blank's Music Industry Management Degree, business or music-related subjects should ideally form a substantial component of Level 3 qualifications. If an applicant has no business or music-related subjects then we can consider an application if the personal statement indicates enthusiasm and an appetite for success within the music business. Applicants for this course will also require Maths grade C at GCSE or equivalent. 
  • Unconditional offers will be reserved for exceptional applicants who demonstrate their ability through examples of previous work and/or attainment in previous academic study.
  • All applicants must be able to demonstrate English language at level B2, equivalent to grade C at GCSE.
  • Applicants without formal qualifications or who have achieved academic qualifications lower than the typical conditional offer may be considered on the strength of relevant prior learning and experience, demonstrated through an interview, written exercise and portfolio of work.
  • If you have / are going to take an IELTS exam, the minimum level is 6.0 (with 5.5 in every category). Only IELTS Academic tests will be accepted. If you are an international student applying for a Tier 4 visa, you must have an IELTS UKVI Academic test.

  • Successful completion of a CertHE or DipHE programme delivered at Point Blank would precipitate entry at level 5 or 6 on the BA programme. Students who have previously completed a qualification at level 4 or 5 may also be eligible to start the programme at a different entry point.

International Entry Requirements

Brazil

The following guidelines are designed to orientate applicants from Brazil through entry on to a Higher Education course at Point Blank. If you would like to apply, please download your application form here

Certificado de Ensino Medio with high grades and the Vestibular or PAS

A recognised UK foundation course

One year of university studies at a recognised Brazilian institution

American High School diploma with SATs and Advanced Placement exams

High school diploma with International Baccalaureate Diploma

Professional Diploma from a technical school (two years post-secondary in a specialised field of study)

  • To meet the English language requirements you would be required to take an IELTS for UKVI (Academic) Exam and obtain an overall level of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 in each category
  • Successful completion of a CertHE or DipHE programme delivered at Point Blank would precipitate entry at level 5 or 6 on the BA programme. Students who have previously completed a qualification at level 4 or 5 may also be eligible to start the programme at a different entry point.
  • Places are limited and offers cannot be made to all applicants.

Visa requirements

For courses of 6 months or more: you will most likely need to apply for a Tier 4 Visa. Point Blank has been awarded Tier 4 Sponsor Status and is able to sponsor international students on a Tier 4 Visa as long as applicants satisfy our application criteria. Please refer our International Student Guidance section for more information on the application process. NB: International Students (outside the EU) course fees are subject to a £1000 surcharge.

If you are applying for the International Music Production & Sound Engineering Diploma (6 months):  you will not require a Tier 4 Visa but may need to apply for a Student Visitor's Visa. Please refer to our International Student Guidance section for more information on the application process.

Canada

The following guidelines are designed to orientate applicants from Canada through entry on to a Higher Education course at Point Blank. If you would like to apply, please download your application form here

  • To meet the English language requirements we accept a minimum score of 14 in English in either the Baccalauréat (le bac) or Option Internationale du Baccalauréat. Alternatively, you could take an IELTS (Academic) Exam and obtain an overall level of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 in each category
  • Successful completion of a CertHE or DipHE programme delivered at Point Blank would precipitate entry at level 5 or 6 on the BA programme. Students who have previously completed a qualification at level 4 or 5 may also be eligible to start the programme at a different entry point.

India

  • To meet the academic requirements, you would be required to have achieved 55% or above from a Local Board Examination. We can accept the following:

Indian School Certificate (Year 12)

Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) / Standard 12

All India Senior School Certificate Examination

We can also accept the International Baccalaureate with an overall score of 24.

  • To meet the English language requirements you would be required to take an IELTS for UKVI (Academic) Exam and obtain an overall level of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 in each category
  • Successful completion of a CertHE or DipHE programme delivered at Point Blank would precipitate entry at level 5 or 6 on the BA programme. Students who have previously completed a qualification at level 4 or 5 may also be eligible to start the programme at a different entry point.

International Baccalaureate Diploma and SAT scores of 550 on each part or ACT composite score of 23

One year of college/university level study with minimum GPA of 2.8
