Overview

Get hands-on practical training and learn how to plan, produce and edit a radio show in 3 months. Professional broadcasters with experience on BBC, Choice FM, Kiss FM and internet radio stations will guide you through the skills you need to broadcast on FM or DAB internet radio or via podcast. Enrol now to Join a global community of alumni including Gemma Cairney, (Radio One, 1Xtra, Channel 4) Monki, (Rinse FM, 1Xtra) and Tayo (Radio One, Fabric) and Mistajam (1Xtra, Radio One).


Throughout this course, you will learn all the tricks of the trade including the use of the studio, how radio works, how to plan, produce and edit a show, how to find work in the industry and lots more. You will also get the chance to practice hosting a live show which will give you the confidence to make the succeeding steps in your radio career. You’ll be studying at our state-of-the-art facilities in Shoreditch and learning on Myriad systems, the number one playout system used in radio stations across the world. You’ll also have the opportunity to engage with the wider Point Blank community with free masterclasses and networking events. At Point Blank, we make it our priority to connect our students to the music industry to give you a head start in your career.

Our students also host and produce their own podcast as part of their learning experience. You can listen to Point Blank Stories for free on Spotify and Apple.

Frank McWeeny Radio

Frank McWeeny is a studio director and content producer at the BBC. He also presents French Toast Radio which has received praise from Annie Mac, and makes documentaries for Gilles Petersons Worldwide FM.

Michael Bailey Radio

Resident DJ for Goldie's Metalheadz label, presenter at 1Xtra, Radio 1 & Ministry of Sound. Recorded/remixed for Goldie, Roni Size, Guy Called Gerald, Trey Songz, Chipmunk, Nas & Damian Marley.

Lindsay Wesker Music Industry

Active in the music industry since the 80's with extensive A&R, DJ and broadcast experience with Kiss FM and MTV. Self-published novel about the industry and presents a weekly show on mi-soul.com.

Alex Phountzi Music Production

Alex has been releasing music since the late-90s. Original member of Bugz In The Attic, co-founder of Greenmoney records, releases on V2 & FabricLive. Remixed Amy Winehouse, Roisin Murphy, Fela Kuti.

Stavros Potamitis Sound Design

Stavros has multiple sample pack number 1s and his music has featured on HBO, BBC & other platforms. Runs Inside Out Records.

Rockwell Music Production

Tom Green AKA Rockwell has released on Metalheadz, Ministry Of Sound and Sony Music; toured the world as an international DJ, appearing at events and venues like Fabric, Ultra Europe & Glastonbury.

After graduating from PB radio course, Monki DJ'd for Annie Mac’s AMP parties, Bestival radio & landed her own slot on Rinse FM. She now presents on 1Xtra & Radio One.

Madam X

DJ, label head, club impresario. Mixing grime, techno, bass, garage, Madam X is adept at playing huge crowds or 100-cap basements. Hosts shows on Radio 1, Rinse & NTS. She is multi-faceted and unique.

Gemma Cairney

Godfather of Dance Music and long-time friend of Point Blank Pete Tong, founder of BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix and worldwide DJ superstar, learned Native Instruments Maschine with the team here in London.

Dev

BBC Presenter. Made his name on 1Xtra, now presenting early breakfast on Radio 1. A DJ since age 14, when Dev decided to get serious about making his own beats, he swiftly enrolled at Point Blank.

Alysha Wood

Alysha Wood joins Gemma Cairney, Monki & Mistajam as Point Blank graduates who enjoy successful radio careers. Alysha has worked on the new Chris Moyles Radio X launch among other achievements.

Anna Kay

After studying on our Radio Course, Anna went on to work on radio shows including BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra, Ministry of Sound Radio, Rinse FM & Kiss FM. She currently works for Beats 1 & Apple Music.

Spoony

Spoony is a legend in UK dance music having brought garage to the masses in 2000 as part of the Dreem Team. He's since gone on to become a staple on Five Live but proved he's always learning by enrolling at PB!

FAQS

Do I need to buy software & equipment to take the course?

Depending on your programme, certain pieces of hardware and software will be essential throughout your studies at Point Blank.

To help with your independent learning and assessment work, you will need to have access to this equipment outside of the campus. However, if you are able to attend classes on-campus, this equipment will be available to use either in-class or by booking practice time. Note that you have access to our facilities 7 days a week during term time for the length of your course (excluding scheduled breaks).

Where you may choose to study online (distance learning), this equipment will be essential to your studies and assignment work. If for any reason you cannot afford to purchase an essential item, you may be eligible for financial support via the hardship fund. More information about this can be found here.

If you wish to buy equipment or software for your home studio, remember that Point Blank students qualify for discounts from Apple Education, Ableton, Native Instruments, Pioneer DJ and other leading industry partners.

What is my timetable?

Each module requires your attendance at one daytime class which will be 3 or 4 hours long depending on the module. Your timetable will be confirmed a week before the start of each term. If you have specific timetable requests, please contact us before booking and we will do our best to arrange your classes at times that suit you.

In addition to classes, students are expected to schedule sufficient practice time each week. The studio facilities are open to you 7 days a week gaining you valuable studio time and reinforcing the skills learned in class. Students can also book regular 1-2-1 sessions with our lecturers outside of class time.
