Overview

Learn how to plan, produce, and edit a radio show or podcast all within just 3 months. Taught by our expert lecturers who work with some of the biggest radio stations such as BBC, Choice FM, Kiss FM among many others. If you want to get a head start in this booming industry, this is your chance! Read on to learn more about our Radio Broadcasting course!


This module is designed to give you a fundamental grounding in the technical, creative and administrative skills required in radio broadcasting. You’ll gain essential skills in operating broadcast and recording equipment, audio editing software and playout systems, as well as vital knowledge of the radio landscape, show planning, researching and presenting. From producing radio shows and features to understanding the ins and outs of the Radio & Audio industry, this module provides the foundations to pursue a career in radio.

Point Blank classes are small to ensure you receive ample 1-2-1 time with your lecturers. Our studios are located in Shoreditch—a global hub of London music venues, bars and networking opportunities.

Michael Bailey Radio

Frank McWeeny Radio

Frank is an audio & technical producer for BBC Radio & Podcasts. His work has been heard by millions of listeners across BBC World Service, Radio 1, Radio 4 and BBC Sounds. He also presents Global Dancefloor on a variety of independent stations and platforms.

Lindsay Wesker Music Industry

Active in the music industry since the 80's with extensive A&R, DJ and broadcast experience with Kiss FM and MTV. Self-published novel about the industry and presents a weekly show on mi-soul.com.

Mark Brocklesby Advanced Recording & Mixing

Mark runs Big Smoke Studios and is a recording engineer, mix engineer, musician, producer and lecturer with over 20 years of professional experience and industry practice.

John Farley (J-Fresh) Radio

J-Fresh is a BBC Radio 1Xtra mix resident, Ministry of Sound music curator, DJ, Broadcaster and Producer with support from BBC Radio 1, Mixmag, GRM Daily & Spotify Editorials.

Monki

After graduating from PB radio course, Monki DJ'd for Annie Mac’s AMP parties, Bestival radio & landed her own slot on Rinse FM. She now presents on 1Xtra & Radio One.

Madam X

Dev

BBC Presenter. Made his name on 1Xtra, now presenting early breakfast on Radio 1. A DJ since age 14, when Dev decided to get serious about making his own beats, he swiftly enrolled at Point Blank.

Alysha Wood

Alysha Wood joins Gemma Cairney, Monki & Mistajam as Point Blank graduates who enjoy successful radio careers. Alysha has worked on the new Chris Moyles Radio X launch among other achievements.

Anna Kay

After studying on our Radio Course, Anna went on to work on radio shows including BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra, Ministry of Sound Radio, Rinse FM & Kiss FM. She currently works for Beats 1 & Apple Music.

Spoony

Spoony is a legend in UK dance music having brought garage to the masses in 2000 as part of the Dreem Team. He's since gone on to become a staple on Five Live but proved he's always learning by enrolling at PB!

FAQS

Do I need to buy software & equipment to take the course?

Depending on your programme, certain pieces of hardware and software will be essential throughout your studies at Point Blank. To help with your independent learning and assessment work, you will need to have access to this equipment outside of the campus. However, if you are able to attend classes on-campus, this equipment will be available to use either in-class or by booking practice time. Note that you have access to our facilities 7 days a week during term time for the length of your course (excluding scheduled breaks). Please visit this page which lists the hardware and software you are required to own for programmes taught by Point Blank. Where you may choose to study online (distance learning), this equipment will be essential to your studies and assignment work. If for any reason you cannot afford to purchase an essential item, you may be eligible for financial support via the hardship fund. More information about this can be found here. If you wish to buy equipment or software for your home studio, remember that Point Blank students qualify for discounts from Apple Education, Ableton, Native Instruments, Pioneer DJ and other leading industry partners.

What is my timetable?

Each module requires your attendance at one daytime class which will be 3 or 4 hours long depending on the module. Your timetable will be confirmed a week before the start of each term. If you have specific timetable requests, please contact us before booking and we will do our best to arrange your classes at times that suit you. In addition to classes, students are expected to schedule sufficient practice time each week. The studio facilities are open to you 7 days a week gaining you valuable studio time and reinforcing the skills learned in class. Students can also book regular 1-2-1 sessions with our lecturers outside of class time.
