As a consequence of lockdown (and importantly looking beyond the coronavirus pandemic too), Point Blank is proud to be ahead of the curve in delivering a fantastic student experience whether on campus or online and are happy to include all the exclusive features for students listed here.
This CertHE is the first year of BA (Hons) Music Production & DJ Practice. It is for people who live for music and DJing. Now more than ever, the distinction between producers and DJs is disappearing since both talents complement each other if you want the widest platform for your music. Practical lectures take place two days per week and outside of lectures you can access practice time including use of the the fully stacked Pioneer DJ Studio. Developed by music industry professionals who have worked with Pharrell Williams and N.E.R.D, Black Eyed Peas, The Killers, Swedish House Mafia and many more, class sizes are strictly limited to 16 and each student has their own workstation and DJ set up in class and the practice studios. The course is taught on either Logic Pro or Ableton Live depending on your preference. This CertHE is worth 120 internationally recognised credits at level 4. You can progress onto year 2 of this programme and complete the DipHE, then in turn progress onto the final year of our BA (Hons) Music Production & DJ Practice Degree. Student Finance is available for eligible UK/EU students. Watch the videos below to find out more about Point Blank and this course!

I like the professionalism and discipline at Point Blank. My programme has a very defined structure from the beginning to the end, and it gives me confidence that if I work and practice I can learn and be able to be a DJ. I'm lucky to have Nigel Hosten as my teacher. Apart from being a pro and a very good DJ, he really knows the foundations of music and cares about his students. He doesn't miss a beat! He is always is there to answer everyone's questions with care and patience. And always with a smile, which I really appreciate! Congratulations on Point Blank's success. Thank you and keep up the hard work and your love for the music industry - it's contagious! - Miguel, DJ student
On our higher education programmes you will be taught through a variety of small intimate lectures and workshops. When not attending these sessions you will be expected to continue learning independently. Independent learning is about taking control of your work and deciding what you need to know and deciding how you are going to study. During this time you can take advantage of:
Each academic level consists of 120 credits and we expect students to study approximately 10 hours per credit. Each module is worth 20 credits and students are expected to study 10 hours per week per module (4 hours of lectures and 6 hours of independent learning).
Assessment is an integral part of learning and you may hear it referred to as formative or summative:
Most students show themselves to be stronger in some assessment types than others. To make it possible for students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills to the best of their abilities, a wide range of assessment types is offered. Students will be asked to produce work in a wide variety of formats including: compositions, creative projects, written work, report, performances, presentations, 1-2-1 discussions, recordings and timed composition briefs. The assessment breakdown for this programme is approximately:
First and foremost, we are looking for people who can demonstrate a) their passion for music and b) an ability to successfully complete a Higher Education programme. This will initially be assessed through your personal statement which should detail any previous study or relevant experience in music. The Admissions Team will look at the merits of each application, taking the following evidence into consideration: personal statement, predicted or previously attained grades, examples of work, references, and relevant work experience. Applicants may also be asked to complete a written exercise and/or attend an interview. Where conditional offers are made, typical offers will be set between:
Applicants without formal music / music technology qualifications or who have achieved academic qualifications lower than the typical conditional offer may be considered on the strength of relevant prior learning and experience. This will initially be assessed through your personal statement which should detail any previous study or relevant experience in music. If your grades may be affected by the recent Coronavirus outbreak then don't worry, Point Blank remains absolutely determined that no applicant will be disadvantaged by the current crisis.
