HR Manager (London)


Point Blank is a leading, specialist Music Production School in the UK. We deliver high end degrees as well as practical, hands on courses in Music Production, Sound Engineering, DJ Practice, Singing, Songwriting & Performance, Music Industry Management and Radio Production. Our degree courses are validated by Middlesex University and we are expanding to meet demand as well as increasing the course portfolio. 

We have an exciting opportunity for an HR expert to join our expanding team in London. We need someone to help us ensure we have the right policies and processes in place, that our staff’s training and development is prioritised and that we have a happy, inclusive, high-performing culture that means we can maximise efficiency.

The successful candidate must have at least two years’ experience in an HR generalist role with solid and up to date knowledge of UK employment legislation and its application. Experience in developing and supporting line managers is essential, underpinned by an excellent understanding of coaching and mentoring approaches to people management and of diversity and inclusion. You will need a track record of managing a complex caseload.

Please note, this will initially be a part time role 3 days per week with a view to moving to full time as the company grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage complex employee relations casework including dispute resolutions, disciplinaries, grievances, absence, retirement and redundancy.
  • Develop HR policies and procedures to all areas of the business including driving performance, mitigating disputes and learning and development policy.
  • Facilitate the recruitment and selection strategies and processes for all recruitment including academic staff.
  • Carry out new starter inductions for academic and non-academic staff. 
  • Monitor and review HR policies and processes and implement changes where necessary.
  • Participate in the implementation of specific projects, procedures and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the organisation. 
  • Oversee, update, manage and provide training on ‘PeopleHR’ online software.
  • Manage the yearly appraisal process, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Ensure all Job Descriptions are up to date and logged in a central area.
  • Manage salary spines and advise Heads of Department on process of review. 
  • Oversee paperwork when recruiting new staff – references, contracts.
  • Ensuring employee records are up to date – contact details, personal information (DOB, nationality, next of kin etc).
  • Checking employees right to work in the UK ensuring the company is compliant with any home office regulations.
  • Maintaining records for new staff and following up with processes with their managers – six month review etc.
  • Oversee the DBS checks required of all staff – for new starters and for current staff when they are up for renewal.
  • Work with appropriate parties to develop a reward strategy and benefits system.
  • Pro-actively ensure that staff wellbeing and mental health is not impacted by working above their allocated hours.
  • Ensure that any overtime is taken as TOIL.
  • Ensure that staff plan their annual leave for the forthcoming year, and adequate cover is provided so they are not working in this period.
  • Ensure that all departments are resourced, working with line managers to report back regularly.
  • Maintain overall morale of all staff members (academic & office) by making sure positive feedback is given.
  • Ensure Point Blank Behaviours Framework is instilled into company culture.

Person Specification

Education / qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent particularly in Human Resources or related field (desirable)
  • CIPD Level 5 qualified (desirable)


  • Minimum of two years’ experience in HR (essential)
