Student Societies

At Point Blank Music School we encourage our students to engage and collaborate with each other inside and outside of class, sharing their musical and personal passions, creating a sense of community and establishing their networks early. Below you can find information about our current student societies which cater for everything from drum and bass devotees to ultimate  frisbee fanatics and more. These societies are student-led and new ones are being added all the time, so see what takes your fancy from the list below, and get in touch via the email addresses provided. If you're already a Point Blank student and you'd like to start your own student society, then feel free email us here.

The Drum and Bass & Jungle Society

The Drum and Bass & Jungle Society aims to bring together all lovers of the genre from Point Blank whilst providing a platform for DJs/producers to showcase their mixes, get live gig experience, improve their networking skills, and overall receive more recognition from the Drum and Bass scene. The main point of contact between the members is our WhatsApp group chat where producers exchange tips and tricks of their work, organise zoom calls for anyone that wants a deep dive on a track, and just generally talk about anything music related! If you’re interested in the genre whether you’re a producer, DJ, or just a fan, get in touch with us here!

DJ Society

Point Blank is famed for its DJ course, so it's only right that there is a DJ society! The purpose of this society will be to share, learn, network and create opportunities. The students will learn new skills and techniques as well as being involved in events that the society plans to run. The activities of the society will be mixes, tutorials, networking events as well as putting its own events so the students can showcase their skills. Once/twice a week 2-4 hours depending on amount of society members. If this sounds like something you want to be involved in, pleae contact us here!

Film Society

Our Film Society at Point Blank London is tailored for anyone who has an inclination towards every aspect of films; a carefully curated selection of films where students can take inspirations from film scores or even direction and cinematography. We have movie nights on campus once every two weeks through to week 8 of the term, polls where members can vote for what they’d like to watch, a WhatsApp group where we share interesting and insightful links about film and film music, and of course, popcorn! Interested? Join us by getting in touch here!

Jamming Society

The Jam Society is welcome to all collaborators; instrumentalists and synth jammers alike. We host free-form jams twice a month, per request, during term times either from a studio on campus or at Danger Room Studio in Homerton, E9. The Jam Society also runs in parallel with ProductionSurgery, which is a rotating roster of musician and amateur producer roles. The aim is to learn, network and create oppurtunities, and if you're interested in joining either or both of these groups, get in touch via email to be added to the WhatsApp group chat!

The K-POP Society

At the K-pop Society, we delve deep into the multifaceted umbrella genre. Reacting to new releases, discussing composition and sharing our favourites.

Whilst breaking all the rules of music theory, K-pop is influenced by almost every genre under there sun. Electronic music, RnB, hip-hop, rock, pop + many more. You may think you know all you need to know about K-pop but trust me, there's something for everyone. Get in touch here if you'd like to take part!

Rap Production Society

The purpose of this society is to bring together producers of the Rap genre. Here you will have the opportunity to collaborate and work with others as well as hear feedback. We will range from American Trap/Hip-hop to UK Rap/Drill/Grime and afro beats/lo-fi rap or Boom Bap. In the future we plan to start working with local artist and create a strong network.

1)     Weekly beat collaborations. We will meet each week at least once and collaborate or make music together. A voting scheme will be in place to decide the most optimal date for everyone.

2)     Monthly Beat Competitions:

This is the opportunity to try out your production skills and compete against others, you will have a month to create a beat out of a given sample. There will be an entry fee and the winner will walk away with the pot. A fair voting scheme will take place so everyone’s music is anonymous, and votes will be anonymous too.

This group plans to meet weekly.

If you would like to contact the leader of this society, please email us here!

Ultimate Frisbee Society

Ultimate Frisbee is a fast-paced, non-contact team sport played with a disc frisbee. Two teams compete on a playing field with two end zones on either side, with each team defending one zone. Goals are scored when a player catches the disc in the opposite end zone from their teammate. The aim of the game is to score the most points for your team.

In Ultimate Frisbee Society, members will meet up once a week to play a casual game of Ultimate Frisbee in Southwark Park. Join the society for a great way to meet fellow PB students while getting fun exercise. Email us here if you'd like to join us!
