Scholarships & Financial Support

Point Blank is committed to making music education accessible to people of all backgrounds. To this end, we are delighted to offer scholarships and grants that are designed to break down barriers.

Point Blank's RISE Scholarship and Grant Award program aims to:

  • Remove barriers to higher education and the music industry
  • Include underrepresented groups
  •  Support disadvantaged students to succeed in their educational program
  •  Enable employment in the music industry after graduation

Please read through the various items below to find out more information about all types of financial support available through Point Blank Music School for for on-campus programs in Los Angeles as well as online programs. MUSIC INDUSTRY LEADERS SCHOLARSHIP (LOS ANGELES)

Point Blank is dedicated to helping talented producers, DJs, singers, and songwriters from all over the world achieve musical excellence through our educational programs. The Music Industry Leaders Scholarship is a talent-based scholarship which can defray up to 20% of your Point Blank tuition cost. The amount of the scholarship is adjudicated according to talent as evidenced through a portfolio submission, combined with potential for industry success as evidenced through a personal statement. More information about the required contents of the portfolio and personal statement is given below.

To apply, you must complete the Financial Support Application and include both a portfolio submission and a personal statement which meet the requirements below. 

PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS

  • Music Production & Songwriting Programs: Your scholarship portfolio submission must contain two music samples in MP3, WAV, or AIF format which showcase your best abilities as a music producer and/or songwriter.
  • DJ Programs: Your scholarship portfolio submission must contain a music sample in MP3, WAV, or AIF format of a live DJ set at least 10 minutes in length which showcases your best abilities as a DJ.
  • Singing Programs: Your scholarship portfolio submission must contain videos in MOV or MP4 format of live performances of two songs which showcase your best abilities as a singer. The live video performances may be any two songs of your choice; both original compositions and cover songs are acceptable. No autotune or effects may be applied. 

All scholarship portfolio submissions must either be uploaded through the Financial Support Application or emailed to scholarships@pointblankmusicschool.com as file attachments or URLs linking to downloadable content hosted online.

PERSONAL STATEMENT REQUIREMENTS

Your personal statement must be at least 250 words and must address each of the following four prompts: 

  • Describe the creative process behind your music samples, and your previous experiences in the music industry, if any.
  • Describe any musical or academic honors, achievements, awards, or recognitions you’ve received, if any.
  • What inspires or influences you as an artist?
  • What are your goals during your Point Blank program and in the music industry after graduation?

DIRTYBIRD x POINT BLANK EQUAL OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP

The Dirtybird x Point Blank Equal Opportunity Scholarship is for BIPOC who are passionate and driven to begin music production or further their career in electronic music production. Dirtybird Records is an underground house music label and event company who has partnered with Point Blank Music School to create and fund this ongoing educational scholarship. Recognizing that house and techno music is of black origin, Dirtybird & Point Blank designed the scholarship to support diversity in dance music, and help BIPOC gain education in music production.

With Point Blank's world-renowned 6-month Music Production Certificate (Online) program, students will gain skills necessary to write and produce music at a professional level. With our virtual classrooms, outside class 1-2-1 review sessions, and student forums, Point Blank offers an all-encompassing educational experience from wherever you are in the world. Dirtybird Records will also provide mentorship in marketing, branding & career development as well as a gear grant for each scholarship winner.

The scholarship covers all tuition and fees, and will be awarded for a program which begins on October 2, 2023. To apply, please submit your application by September 15, 2023 at the Dirtybird Records Scholarship Page. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma or the equivalent. Due to the volume of applicants, not all applicants will receive a response. If you have been selected to interview for the scholarship, you will be contacted directly by Dirtybird.

PROGRAM PACKAGE DISCOUNTS (Los angeles)

If you enroll in one course or program at Point Blank Los Angeles, you will receive a $200 discount off of tuition for each additional program you book during the same term. Students who receive a talent-based scholarship or need-based tuition grant are not eligible for package discounts. Contact an Admissions Advisor at (323) 594-8740 (or email admissions@pointblankmusicschool.com) to enroll in multiple programs and receive the package discount.

NEED-BASED TUITION GRANTS

Point Blank is dedicated to helping music students of limited means achieve excellence at our Los Angeles location. Students whose families make less than $60,000 per year or individuals making less than $30,000 per year are eligible to apply for a need-based tuition grant, which can defray up to 20% of your Point Blank tuition cost.
HOW TO APPLY: Submit your most recent tax return (if you file), your parents most recent tax return, and a personal statement to scholarships[at]pointblankmusicschool.com. If you are not a US citizen/resident, submit a recent bank statement as well as your parents’ most recent bank statement. The personal statement must be at least 250 words and must address why you feel you deserve a need-based tuition grant.

Terms & Conditions

All scholarship awards, grant awards, package discounts, and discount codes available through Point Blank Music School in the United States are subject to the following Terms & Conditions:

  • Scholarship awards, grant awards, package discounts, and discount codes may not be combined and may only be used once towards the cost of an educational program at Point Blank Music School in Los Angeles; they are not transferable and may not be redeemed for cash value.
  • Point Blank Music School will attempt to contact the selected recipient of a scholarship or grant award using the phone and email contact information provided on this application. If the recipient does not respond within 7 days of the first contact attempt, the scholarship or grant offer may be rescinded at the discretion of the administration.
  • Scholarship awards, grant awards, and discounts will be applied as tuition reductions periodically and proportionately throughout the program on a monthly, termly, or full-program basis, according to the student's selected tuition payment plan. After the initial tuition reduction, the recipient must maintain satisfactory academic progress and meet minimum attendance requirements to continue to receive the tuition reduction.
  • If the recipient fails to maintain satisfactory academic progress or meet minimum attendance requirements, any remaining tuition reductions provided by the scholarship or grant award will be forfeited, and the recipient will be required to pay full tuition for all remaining outstanding tuition payments until program completion, at the discretion of the administration.
  • Point Blank Music School reserves the right to not award a scholarship or grant if no applicant meets eligibility requirements.
  • Scholarship awards and grant awards are not guaranteed, nor will a scholarship or grant award secure a place in the intended program or term of study for the recipient. Only the payment of a non-refundable registration fee will guarantee a place in an intended program or term of study for the registrant. 
  • Students in receipt of a scholarship or grant award may be asked and expected to attend one external event (e.g. an Open House) or contribute once to marketing material (i.e. provide a Student Testimonial). If students do not wish to attend an event or contribute to marketing material in this manner, any remaining tuition reductions provided by the scholarship or grant award will be forfeited, and the recipient will be required to pay full tuition for all remaining outstanding tuition payments until program completion, at the discretion of the administration.
  • Students in receipt of a scholarship or grant award who are eligible for included software will receive the software upon request within the first week of their program, provided that all enrollment requirements have been met and the first tuition payment has been made. 
  • While students may apply for any scholarship or grant award, only one scholarship or grant award will be given per student, per program. Scholarship awards, grant awards, and discount codes cannot be combined. The maximum financial support package offered through a scholarship or grant award at Point Blank Los Angeles is a tuition reduction equal to 20% of the total program tuition cost.
